A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY OF THE MOUNT VERNON CITY COUNCIL
HELD ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2025.

CALL TO ORDER / PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Council President Danielle Browne called the meeting to order and provided general house-keeping
rules, including encouraging citizens to share the meeting on social media and what to do “in case of
emergency”. Council President Browne explained the 3-minute-plus-1 public comment rule. She then
asked a Councilperson to lead the council in the Pledge of Allegiance. Council President then proceeded
to the Public Speakers session of the evening (listed below as public comment).

Councilman Boxhill - met with him and Brian, a few weeks ago; he was 45 minutes late, and we waited
to address his issue.
Councilman Poteat - has come before with the same compliants and council members have met with
him and are making usre they are making things better for residents.
Councilman Gleason - confirmed with PD that his license was valid.

Councilman Poteat - thank you for coming and telling us what is happening in the community.
regarding the options of the council and city representatives we can’t do much on the federal level. we
are not sure if it was ICE that you saw, but it probably was. what should we do about it? like Obama
says, vote. There are more elections coming up and I will be working to get people out there to register
and vote. That is how I feel.
Councilman Gleason - requested additional information from the speaker on the ICE raids.
Councilman Thompson - cameras deter crime and there is data that shows that it prevents crimes. want
to assure the community that the council is committed to make sure the residents and businesses feel
safe.
Council President Browne - immigration enforcement is by federal government and not local
government and asking us how should we protect our residents. How are we should do that? Munroe - I
do not want to have that dialogue here at this public forum. we need dialogue between the state and the
citizens.

Councilman Boxhill - I do see PD block off street, will address with PD
Councilman Poteat - agree with being upset, you are in good hands with Gleason. please stay on top of
council after a month, because next summer these events do not hinder residents accessing their homes
Councilman Gleason - will clarify with PD, have observed that PD will let people in who live on the
block.
