CALL TO ORDER / PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Lead by Councilwoman Gleason
Acting Council President Jaevon Boxhill called the meeting to order and provided general
house-keeping rules, including encouraging citizens to share the meeting on social media and what to do
“in case of emergency”. Council President Thompson explained the 3-minute-plus-1 public comment
rule. He then asked a Councilperson to lead the council in the Pledge of Allegiance. Council President
then proceeded to the Public Speakers session of the evening (listed below as public comment).

Betterment of Mount Vernon as well as ICE tactical presence in Mount Vernon
Council President Thompson and Councilman Wallace both spoke on not having the ability to speak on
personal matters in regard to DErrick Williams, Councilmember Turnquest - Jones spoke on her union
leadership and employer of the Police Benevolent Association (PBA) president that a situation similar
to Derrick Williams does not happen again. She also had cards for the public to use when approached by
ICE agents. Councilwoman Gleason spoke on her history with the Mount Vernon Police Department
and that she reached out to the Westchester Blue Foundation and requested that he used those resources.
She spoke on ICE's presence in Mount Vernon. Councilman Boxhill spoke on Derrick Williams being a
childhood friend and that he has spoken to all city officials and the PBA to find the best possible
outcome and expressed his sentiments. He spoke on the drone surveillance and that the public should be
included in those conversations.
