CALL TO ORDER / PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Council President Derrick Thompson called the meeting to order and provided general house-keeping
rules, including encouraging citizens to share the meeting on social media and what to do “in case of
emergency”. Council President Thompson explained the 3-minute-plus-1 public comment rule. He then
asked a Councilperson to lead the council in the Pledge of Allegiance. Council President then proceeded
to the Public Speakers session of the evening (listed below as public comment).

Spoke on Mount Vernon's rapid infrastructure and expansion programs
Council Response:
Councilman Wallace: addressed the speakers concerns about how the monitoring system can be used
positively and help deter and solve crimes
Councilwoman Gleason: The program will be used for crime fighting and will not be used for federal
purposes
Councilman Boxhill: I did request a community forum for input and explained that it is a test period that
the city does not have to continue use, but we should have a discussion with the community
Councilwoman Turnquest - Jones: acknowledged receipt of her email and addressed her concerns and
discussed the need for the Police Department for how they are housing information and who they are
releasing it too.
Council President Thompson: requested the possibility of the drone program and we expect it to do
things in regard to public safety. It can use thermal technology to see if people are trapped in a fire. It is
a one year trial bases and the council can terminate if we feel it is harming our community.
