RESOLVED, that an ordinance adopted by the City Council on October 23, 2024, and signed by the Mayor on October 24, 2024, authorizing the Department of Recreation to Sponsor the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Temporarily Closing Designated Streets for the Event - (Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Plaza - $3,000.00 will be charged to Budget Code A7310.104), be and the same is hereby approved.

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE
DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION TO SPONSOR
THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
CEREMONY AND TEMPORARILY CLOSING
DESIGNATED STREETS FOR THE EVENT
Whereas, by letter dated October 15, 2024, the Commissioner of the Department of Recreation has requested legislation authorizing said Department to sponsor and organize the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, to be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Plaza; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon desires to provide a festive event for residents, bringing the community together to celebrate the holiday season; and
Whereas, it is necessary to temporarily close certain streets and provide city services to ensure the safety and success of the event; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain and enact:
Section 1. Event Authorization. The Department of Recreation is hereby authorized to sponsor the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at City Hall Plaza from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Section 2. Street Closures. The following streets shall be closed to vehicular traffic on December 5, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to facilitate the event:
* Roosevelt Square East
* Roosevelt Square North
These closures shall accommodate a horse and buggy ride as part of the event festivities.
