AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR
OF SUSTAINABILITY TO ATTEND THE 2024
NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS OF COUNTY AND
CITY HEALTH OFFICIALS (NACCHO) CONFERENCE
(July 22 to 26, 2024)

Whereas, by letter dated June 11, 2024, the Director of Sustainability of the Department of Public Works, has requested legislation authorizing the Director of Sustainability to attend the 2024 National Associations of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Conference in Detroit, Michigan, from July 22 to 26, 2024; and
Whereas, the National League of Cities (NLC) has extended an invitation to the City of Mount Vernon to participate in the 2024 National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Conference; and
Whereas, the conference will take place in Detroit, Michigan, from July 22 to 26, 2024, with the theme "Heard it Through the Grapevine: Public Health Partnerships, Collaboration, and Innovation"; and
Whereas, this conference will gather local health department leaders and other public health professionals from across the United States to discuss critical public health issues; and
Whereas, the conference will cover various tracks, including Behavioral and Mental Health/Substance Abuse, Communication/Marketing/Messaging, Epidemiology and Communicable Disease, Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health, Informatics, Surveillance, and IT, Workforce Leadership, and Public Health Services; and
Whereas, Mount Vernon's active participation in the NLCS's Policy & Systems Change Cohort has brought national recognition to the city for its pioneering efforts in environmental justice, well-being, and equity; and
Whereas, attending the conference will provide an opportunity to highlight Mount Vernon's initiatives, share best practices, and gain insights to improve the city's public health strategies further; and
