AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE APPOINTMENT
OF KHELLEY GEARS AS A MARRIAGE CLERK
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon recognizes the duties outlined in Section 15 of the Domestic Relations Law regarding the appointment of Marriage Clerks; and
Whereas, Khelley Gears, in her capacity as an administrative aide, is responsible for reviewing and processing marriage licenses; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordains, and enacts:
Section 1. Title and Purpose.
(a) This ordinance shall be known as the “Marriage Clerk Appointment Ordinance.”
(b) The purpose of this ordinance is to designate Khelley Gears as a Marriage Clerk for the City of Mount Vernon in accordance with Section 15 of the Domestic Relations Law.
Section 2. Appointment of Marriage Clerk.
(a) Khelley Gears, currently serving as an administrative aide, is hereby designated as a Marriage Clerk for the City of Mount Vernon.
(b) In her capacity as a Marriage Clerk, Khelley Gears is authorized to review and process marriage licenses in accordance with Section 15 of the Domestic Relations Law.
Section 3. Duties and Responsibilities.
(a) The duties of the Marriage Clerk shall include, but are not limited to:
(i) Reviewing marriage license applications for completeness and accuracy.
(ii) Processing approved marriage licenses in compliance with applicable laws.
(iii) Maintaining accurate and confidential records of marriage licenses.
Section 4. Implementation. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the City Council.
