City Council:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A BUDGET
TRANSFER WITHIN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
BUDGET TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR
UNIFORMS AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Whereas, by correspondence dated July 2, 2026, the Deputy Commissioner of the Fire Department has requested authorization for the transfer of Eighty-Six Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-Two Dollars ($86,572.00) within the Fiscal Year 2026 Fire Department Budget as indicated below; and
Whereas, the Fire Department has determined that additional funding is required in its Uniform and Protective Equipment account to meet current operational needs and ensure that firefighters are equipped with the required protective clothing and equipment; and
Whereas, the Fire Department has requested authorization to transfer Eighty-Six Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-Two Dollars ($86,572.00) from Budget Account A3410.101 – Unallocated Salaries to Budget Account A3410.203 – Uniform and Protective Equipment; and
Whereas, the requested transfer is necessary to satisfy outstanding obligations for previously purchased uniform gear, eliminate the existing deficit in the Uniform and Protective Equipment account, and provide funding for the purchase of required turnout gear, boots, and other protective equipment for firefighter recruits scheduled to attend the Fire Academy in September 2026; and
Whereas, the requested transfer will specifically:
Cover outstanding uniform gear purchases totaling Thirty-Six Thousand Four Hundred Twenty-Three Dollars ($36,423.00);
Eliminate the current negative balance of Eight Thousand Two Hundred Ninety-Seven Dollars and Ninety-Nine Cents ($8,297.99) in Budget Account A3410.203; and
Provide the remaining Forty-One Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty-One Dollars and One Cent ($41,851.01) for the purchase of turnout gear, boots, and other required protective equipment for new firefighter recruits; and
