A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF

THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK

HONORING AND RECOGNIZING THE RETIREMENT OF

FIREFIGHTER LIEUTENANT GERALD JOHNSON III

Whereas,                     the great City of Mount Vernon, NY, joins the Fire Administration in recognizing the retirement of FIREFIGHTER LIEUTENANT GERALD JOHNSON III from Active Service; and

Whereas,                     FIREFIGHTER LIEUTENANT GERALD JOHNSON III began his exceptional career with the Mount Vernon Fire Department on March 6, 1995, and has faithfully served the community for over 29 years; and

Whereas,                     LIEUTENANT JOHNSON has exemplified a commitment to public service through his various assignments, most recently at Station #1 with Ladder 62 Truck Company, and previously at Station #2 with Engine Company 205 and Rescue 1; and

Whereas,                     in December 2017, LIEUTENANT JOHNSON was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant, and he continued to demonstrate leadership, courage, and a passion for serving the residents of Mount Vernon. His strong sense of teamwork and exceptional work ethic earned him the admiration and respect of his colleagues, and he has been recognized with letters of appreciation and accolades for his outstanding performance and dedication to duty. Lieutenant Johnson’s retirement on October 15, 2024, marks the culmination of a distinguished career that has brought great credit upon himself, the Mount Vernon Fire Department, and the city he has served so honorably; Now, Therefore, be it

Resolved,                     that the City Council of Mount Vernon hereby extends its deepest gratitude to FIRE LIEUTENANT GERALD JOHNSON III for his 29-plus years of exemplary service, leadership, and contributions to the safety and well-being of the community; be it further

Resolved                     that this proclamation is a tribute to the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork displayed by LIEUTENANT JOHNSON throughout his career and that a copy of this resolution be presented to him as a token of our appreciation for his outstanding service.
