City Council:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING A TWELVE (12)
MONTH LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR
MR. KENRICK SPENCE AS MOTOR EQUIPMENT
OPERATOR IN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND
APPOINTING HIM TO THE POSITION OF
PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTER
Whereas, by letter dated September 5, 2024, the Commissioner of the Fire Department has requested legislation authorizing a twelve (12) month leave of absence for Mr. Kenrick Spence from his current position as Motor Equipment Operator in the Fire Department, effective September 4, 2024, through September 3, 2025, under the terms of his employment under the Teamsters Local 456 contract; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon currently employs Mr. Kenrick Spence as a Motor Equipment Operator in the Fire Department; and
Whereas, Mr. Kenrick Spence has been selected for appointment to the position of Probationary Firefighter within the Fire Department of the City of Mount Vernon; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon desires to grant Mr. Spence’s request for a leave of absence and appoint him to the position of Probationary Firefighter to serve in a probationary status for the duration of the twelve months; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain and enact:
Section 1. Leave of Absence for Mr. Kenrick Spence. The City Council hereby grants Mr. Kenrick Spence a twelve (12) month leave of absence from his current position as Motor Equipment Operator in the Fire Department, effective September 4, 2024, through September 3, 2025, pursuant to the terms of his employment under the Teamsters Local 456 contract.
Section 2. Appointment to the Position of Probationary Firefighter. The City Council hereby appoints Mr. Kenrick Spence to the position of Probationary Firefighter within the Fire Department of the City of Mount Vernon. Mr. Spence shall serve in this probationary status for twelve (12) months, commencing on September 4, 2024, and ending on September 3, 2025.
Section 3. Compliance with the Teamsters Local 456 Contract. The provisions of this ordinance are in full compliance with the terms of Mr. Kenrick Spence’s employment as outlined in the Teamsters Local 456 contract, including any rights or obligations therein regarding leave of absence and appointment to a new position.
Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its adoption and approval by the City Council.
