Whereas, the Department of Public Safety has identified an urgent need to update its vehicle fleet to ensure efficient operations, particularly for the Detective Division; and

Whereas, the Mount Vernon Police Department has not had a sustainable vehicle replacement program for approximately 15 years, leading to an aging and unreliable fleet; and

Whereas, in August 2022, ARPA funding was utilized to purchase 20 Ford Explorer Police Utilities to address immediate fleet needs, but the current fleet remains insufficient to sustain long-term operations and mitigate wear and tear; and

Whereas, the Department proposes transitioning eight (8) unmarked Ford Explorer Police Utilities into the spare marked police vehicle fleet and replacing these vehicles with seven (7) Toyota Camry LE Hybrid vehicles for detective duties; and

Whereas, the purchase of these vehicles will improve operational efficiency, extend the service life of patrol vehicles, and provide the necessary tools for the Department to fulfill its mission effectively; and
