A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF

THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK

RECOGNIZING AND HONORING

JAMES FRANK ROWSON

Whereas,                     the great city of Mount Vernon, New York, joins the community in recognizing the achievements of JAMES FRANK ROWSON; and

Whereas,                     JAMES FRANK ROWSON was born in Mount Vernon, NY, and at a young age fell in love with baseball and aspired to become a ballplayer; and

 

Whereas,                     JAMES FRANK ROWSON recalls walking to Brush Park growing up to watch or participate in baseball tournaments. During the 1980s and early 1990s, baseball games in Brush Park became a perfect place for the Mount Vernon community to gather.  The park would be filled with hundreds of young ballplayers who aspire to reach the major league or gain sports exposure.  Rowson recalls people from the community and the surrounding cities being there and an exuberant energy that was unforgettable; and

 

Whereas,                     JAMES FRANK ROWSON’s affection, determination, and natural talent for the game helped him achieve his goal of being a professional ballplayer.  The Seattle Mariners selected him in the 1994 Major League Baseball draft and went on the New York Yankees’ minor league systems from 1995 to 1997.  He then played in the independent Heartland League in 1998.  In his post-playing career, Rowson was the minor-league hitting coach for the Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. Rowson would continue to carve his pathway up in the league.  In 2024 he began his first season as the Yankees’ Hitting Coach.  This will mark his tenth season on a Major League coaching staff and his twenty-third season coaching professional baseball; Now, Therefore, be it

 

Resolved,                     the City Council is proud to join with the City of Mount Vernon, New York's citizens, to recognize and honor JAMES FRANK ROWSON for his commitment and achievements in professional baseball.  As a son of our great city, he is a positive role model for children aspiring to have a baseball career.  Congratulations on this new chapter of your career, Mr. Rowson.  We wish you many more successful years to come.
