RESOLVED, that an ordinance adopted by the City Council on February 14, 2024, and signed by the Mayor on February 15, 2024, authorizing co-sponsorship of an Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration Event with Comrie Enterprises (Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hartley Park. Rain date: Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Funds are to be accounted for in Budget Code: A8170.447ARP and will not exceed $10,000, be and the same is hereby approved.

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE
CO-SPONSORSHIP OF AN EARTH DAY/ARBOR DAY
CELEBRATION EVENT WITH COMRIE ENTERPRISES
Whereas, Whereas, by letter dated January 22, 2024, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works has requested legislation authorizing the Department of Public Works to co-sponsor an Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration event with Comrie Enterprises; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon recognizes the importance of promoting environmental conservation and sustainability within the community; and
Whereas, the Department of Public Works (DPW) seeks legislative support to co-sponsor an Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration event with Comrie Enterprises on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hartley Park, with a contingency plan for inclement weather on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and
Whereas, DPW also requests approval for 10-15 vendors to participate in the Earth Day event, where informational documents will be distributed, small demonstrations performed, and City vehicles displayed; and
Whereas, the purpose of this event is to raise awareness about environmental issues and honor the achievements of the environmental movement, fostering a sense of responsibility for the protection of Earth's natural resources for future generations; and
Whereas, funds for this event are to be accounted for in Budget Code A8170.447ARP and will not exceed $10,000.00; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain, and enact:
SECTION 1. Authorization:
(a) The Department of Public Works (DPW) is hereby authorized to co-sponsor an Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration event with Comrie Enterprises on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hartley Park, with a contingency plan for inclement weather on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
(b) DPW is also authorized to approve the participation of 10-15 vendors at the Earth Day event, where informational materials will be distributed, small demonstrations performed, and City vehicles displayed.
SECTION 2. Purpose. The purpose of the Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration event is to draw attention to environmental issues, promote conservation and sustainability within the community, and honor the achievements of the environmental movement.
SECTION 3. Funding. Funds for the Earth Day/Arbor Day celebration event shall be accounted for in Budget Code A8170.447ARP and shall not exceed $10,000.00.
SECTION 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval.
