A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK
RECOGNIZING THE SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
OF
THE HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE, J.S.C.
Whereas, the great City of Mount Vernon, NY, joins together to recognize the service and leadership of THE HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE; and
Whereas, the HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE was elected in 2007 as the second woman of color to the position of Westchester County Family Court Judge; and
Whereas, the HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE made history again in 2016 as the first Caribbean-American woman to be elected to the New York State Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District; and
Whereas, the HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE has been a Westchester Black Bar Association member for over two decades with exceptional leadership as its first and second Vice President and Board member. Her passion and dedication to public service have also provided her the opportunity to serve as a Board member of The Judicial Friends Association, Inc., the Advisory Board member of Mercy University, the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and former Board of Visitors member at the City University School of Law. Judge Malone and her husband, George, support scholarships for high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to public service and STEAM. Her drive and commitment to uplift and educate the community have made an impact through her lectures on family and matrimonial issues. Through her advocacy for mental health and wellness, she has lectured on the impact of the administration of antipsychotic medication to children in Foster Care. She has served as a member of the New York State Judicial Task Force on Mental Illness. With many recognitions for her devotion to community and public service, we express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for her work and service; Now, Therefore, be it
Resolved, that the City Council joins with the citizens of the City of Mount Vernon, NY, the many colleagues, and friends, in recognition of the outstanding commitment, leadership, and valued counsel of the HONORABLE JANET C. MALONE. We thank you for your devotion. You are truly an important part of our community.
