AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE DISPOSAL

OF DAMAGED AND NON-FUNCTIONAL EQUIPMENT

 

Whereas, by letter dated February 11, 2025, the Commissioner of the Department of Management Services has requested legislation authorizing said Department to dispose of the following equipment, which has been deemed damaged, non-functional, or obsolete; and

Whereas, the Department of Management Services has identified specific electronic equipment that is damaged, non-functional, or outdated; and

Whereas, the continued storage of such equipment serves no beneficial purpose and occupies valuable space within City facilities; and

Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon seeks to dispose of said equipment in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with applicable electronic waste disposal regulations; and

Whereas, the City has arranged for an e-waste recycling company to collect and properly dispose of the equipment mentioned above; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That

The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain and enact:

Section 1.                     Authorization for Disposal.  The Department of Management Services is hereby authorized to dispose of the following equipment, which has been deemed damaged, non-functional, or obsolete:

Section 2.                     Method of Disposal.  The Department of Management Services shall ensure that all disposed equipment is handled correctly and recycled by a certified e-waste recycling company in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

Section 3.                     Implementation.  The Commissioner of the Department of Management Services, or their designee, shall oversee the execution of this ordinance, including coordinating logistics for collection and disposal.

Section 4.                     Effective Date.  This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its approval and adoption by the City Council.
