A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK,
RECOGNIZING UNIQUE GROOM FOR HER
DEDICATION TO AUTISM AWARENESS AND
COMMUNITY EFFORTS
Whereas, Unique Groom, a lifelong resident of the City of Mount Vernon, New York, is a dedicated mother, advocate, and community leader whose compassion and perseverance have inspired her ongoing commitment to serving others; and
Whereas, as a graduate of the Mount Vernon City School District, she cultivated a strong foundation in community engagement, demonstrating an early commitment to mentoring youth and uplifting those around her; and
Whereas, following the birth of her son in 2012 and his subsequent diagnosis of autism, Unique Groom transformed personal experience into purposeful advocacy, becoming a knowledgeable and trusted resource for families facing similar challenges; and
Whereas, she has led and supported a variety of awareness events, educational workshops, and community initiatives aimed at promoting acceptance, inclusion, and access to vital services for individuals with autism and their families; and
Whereas, for more than eight years, Unique Groom has served with distinction in the Office of Senator Jamaal Bailey, while also spearheading impactful community efforts such as the Community Baby Shower, which provides essential supplies and support to families in need; and
Whereas, she remains instrumental in the planning and execution of the Annual Autism Walk, in collaboration with the Office of Senator Jamaal Bailey, fostering awareness, unity, and community support for individuals and families affected by autism; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Mount Vernon hereby recognizes and commends Unique Groom for her steadfast advocacy, dedicated service, and meaningful contributions to the community, particularly in support of individuals with autism and their families; and BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution is presented in honor of her service in connection with the Annual Autism Walk 2026, with sincere appreciation for her continued efforts to promote inclusion, understanding, and compassion throughout the City of Mount Vernon.
