An Ordinance Authorizing the

Co-Sponsorship of the Mount Vernon

Seventh Day Adventist Health Fair

Whereas, by letter dated July 18, 2024, the Commissioner for the Department of Recreation has requested legislation authorizing the Department to co-sponsor the Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Health Fair by extending the use of Hartley Park on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with no additional costs incurred by the city as scheduled maintenance staff will be present at the event; and

Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon is committed to promoting wellness and healthy living within the community; and

Whereas, the Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Church hosts its annual health fair, a highly anticipated community event that offers various services and activities designed to educate and empower attendees about various aspects of health; and

Whereas, the fair provides free health screenings, nutritional advice, fitness demonstrations, mental health resources, interactive workshops, family-friendly activities, and informational booths staffed by healthcare professionals and local organizations; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That

The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain and enact:

Section 1.                     Authorization.  The City Council authorizes the Department of Recreation to co-sponsor the Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Health Fair by extending Hartley Park on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Section 2.                     Event Details.  The Mount Vernon Seventh Day Adventist Health Fair will include:

                     Free health screenings

                     Nutritional advice

                     Fitness demonstrations

                     Mental health resources

                     Interactive workshops

                     Family-friendly activities

                     Informational booths staffed by healthcare professionals and local organizations

Section 3.                     Park Use.  Hartley Park shall be available for the health fair on the specified date and time. The scheduled maintenance staff will be present during the event, ensuring the park is properly maintained without incurring additional costs to the city, with no additional costs incurred by the city as scheduled maintenance staff will be present at the event.

Section 4.                     Community Impact.  The health fair aims to foster a healthier community by providing valuable resources and encouraging individuals to take proactive steps toward their well-being.

Section 5.                     Effective Date.  This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the City Council.
