City Council:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE
COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC WORKS TO
COMPLETE THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE
(PMI) AUTHORIZED ON-DEMAND PMP EXAM PURCHASE
Whereas, in correspondence dated November 24, 2025, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works formally requested authorization to complete the purchase of the PMI Authorized On-Demand PMP Exam in the amount of $675.00, pursuant to Order No. 30010318134; and
Whereas, the Department of Public Works is currently managing more than $40 million in active grants and capital projects vital to the modernization and improvement of the City’s infrastructure; and
Whereas, the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a globally recognized credential that advances specialized knowledge in project planning, execution, cost control, and overall project leadership; and
Whereas, the acquisition and completion of the PMI Authorized On-Demand PMP Exam will strengthen the City’s capacity to execute and deliver major capital initiatives in a timely, transparent, and fiscally responsible manner; and
Whereas, the cost of the PMP Exam, as reflected in Order No. 30010318134 with the Project Management Institute (PMI), is Six Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($675.00); and
Whereas, funding for this professional development expenditure is available and budgeted in A1490.417 - DPW Commissioner’s Office - Education/Training; and
Whereas, this investment in project management expertise will yield a direct and measurable benefit to the City and its taxpayers by improving oversight, compliance, and performance of ongoing and future capital projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Mount Vernon, New York, as follows:
Section 1. Authorization. The Commissioner of the Department of Public Works is hereby authorized to complete the purchase of the PMI Authorized On-Demand PMP Exam in the amount of $675.00, pursuant to Order No. 30010318134.
Section 2. Funding Source. Payment for this expenditure shall be charged to budget line A1490.417 - DPW Commissioner’s Office - Education/Training.
Section 3. Execution of Necessary Documents. The Mayor, Comptroller, and/or Commissioner of Public Works are hereby authorized and directed to take any and all administrative actions necessary to effectuate the purpose of this Ordinance.
Section 4. Severability. If any section, clause, or provision of this Ordinance is determined to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 5. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon adoption by the City Council and subsequent approval by the Board of Estimate and Contract.
