City Council:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE
ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENT
Whereas, by letter dated June 17, 2024, the Commissioner for the Department of Public Safety has requested legislation to authorize the annual National Night Out event; and
Whereas, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live; and
Whereas, the goals of the National Night Out event are to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon plans to hold the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hartley Park, located at 215 Gramatan Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY; and
Whereas, community support and donations are essential to the success of National Night Out, with local businesses playing a crucial role in providing the necessary resources and support for the event; and
Whereas, Police Commissioner David Gibson, Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Lackard, Chief Marcel Olifiers, the Command Staff, and all the officers and civilian members of the Mount Vernon Police Department express their sincere thanks to all organizations for their past and anticipated support and sponsorship of National Night Out; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain, and enact:
Section 1. Authorization. The City Council authorizes holding the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hartley Park, 215 Gramatan Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY.
Section 2. Community Support and Donations. The City Council encourages community support and donations to ensure the success of the National Night Out event. It acknowledges the importance of local businesses and organizations in contributing to this community effort.
Section 3. Collaboration. The Police Department, in collaboration with the community and local businesses, is authorized to organize and execute the National Night Out event in accordance with the outlined goals and objectives.
Section 7. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the City Council.
