City Council:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING ATTENDANCE
BY THE FIRST DEPUTY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
BUILDINGS AT THE 2026 ICC ANNUAL CONFERENCE
AND EXPO IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
Whereas, the Department of Buildings is responsible for the administration and enforcement of applicable building, construction, zoning, permitting, inspection, and life-safety requirements within the City of Mount Vernon; and
Whereas, the Department of Buildings has requested authorization for a designated representative of the Department to attend the 2026 ICC Annual Conference and Expo, to be held in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center from October 17 to October 22, 2026; and
Whereas, the 2026 ICC Annual Conference and Expo provides comprehensive educational and professional development opportunities for building officials, code administrators, inspectors, engineers, municipal representatives, fire officials, and other professionals involved in building safety and code administration; and
Whereas, attendance at the conference will provide an opportunity to obtain current information regarding building codes, code administration and enforcement practices, plan review, inspections, permitting, energy requirements, existing buildings, fire and life-safety systems, flood provisions, emerging technologies, and other matters directly related to the responsibilities of the Department of Buildings; and
Whereas, the conference’s educational program includes subject matter concerning the 2027 International Building Code, the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code, the International Existing Building Code, legal aspects of code enforcement and administration, strategic code enforcement, building and fire-code coordination, flood provisions, fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems, performance-based codes, and the use of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in the building safety industry; and
