AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING RETROACTIVE
APPROVAL OF LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Whereas, by letter dated March 18, 2024, the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety has requested legislation authorizing a retroactive one-year leave of absence for Police Department Communications Specialist Jamila Green, effective Wednesday, March 13, 2024; and
Whereas, the City of Mount Vernon recognizes the importance of providing opportunities for professional development and growth to its employees; and
Whereas, Ms. Jamila Green, a Police Department Communications Specialist, has requested a one (1) year leave of absence to work in the Civil Service position of Records Clerk within the Department of Public Safety; and
Whereas, the City Council must enact legislation to retroactively approve the request for Ms. Green's leave of absence; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved That
The City of Mount Vernon, in City Council convened, does hereby ordain, and enact:
Section 1. Retroactive Approval of Leave of Absence. The City Council hereby retroactively approves the request for a one (1) year leave of absence for Police Department Communications Specialist Jamila Green, effective Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Section 2. Position During Leave of Absence. During the period of leave of absence, Ms. Green will be working in the Civil Service position of Records Clerk within the Department of Public Safety.
Section 3. Conditions of Leave. Ms. Green understands and agrees that if this retroactive one-year leave of absence is granted, no other leave of absence shall be granted for her position for a two-year period after her return from the leave of absence.
Section 4. Notification. The City Clerk is directed to notify Ms. Jamila Green and the relevant departments of the retroactive approval of her leave of absence.
